WISCONSIN LEGISLATURE PASSES
PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS INFORMATION ACT

Senate Bill (SB) 592, authored by State Senator Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point) and co-authored by State Representative Barbara Dittrich (R-Oconomowoc), passed both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature in late October and now awaits Governor Evers’ signature.

Known as the Prenatal Diagnosis Information Act, SB 592 would require physicians who administer prenatal or postnatal tests for congenital conditions to provide parents, upon a positive test result, with informative and supportive educational resources made available by the Department of Health Services (DHS). DHS would be required to provide current, evidence-based information about their child’s congenital condition that has been reviewed by medical experts and organizations specializing in that condition along with information on support programs and relevant resource centers.

Pro-Life Wisconsin testified in strong support of SB 592 before the Senate Committee on Health on October 12, 2021. On October 20, 2021, the full Senate passed SB 592 on a 20 to 11 vote. On October 27, 2021, the Assembly concurred in SB 592 on a 57 to 37 vote. Both floor votes were partisan with Democrats voting NO in lockstep. Hopefully, Governor Evers will see the compassion and love this legislation brings to vulnerable parents and children and sign it into law.

Studies demonstrate that following a prenatal diagnosis, close to 70% of Down Syndrome babies are aborted in the United States. Parents of children diagnosed with a congenital condition need to be reassured that there exists detailed information and valuable resources and organizations that can greatly assist them in learning about, caring for, and raising their child. Senate Bill 592 will go a long way toward encouraging and empowering parents to provide optimal care for their child in such challenging circumstances.

As human beings, we are not just valuable for what we can do, but for who we are. As God’s image bearers, we have intrinsic worth, inestimable value, and inviolable dignity. Caring for and loving a child with disabilities allows us to serve someone other than ourselves. It fosters patience, understanding, and gratitude for the gifts we have been given.

Pro-Life Wisconsin thanks Senator Testin and Representative Dittrich for introducing this much-needed legislation, and we thank Senate and Assembly Republicans for passing it. Should SB 592 be enacted into law, it will save and transform lives.

PRO-LIFE NEWS

NORTH CAROLINA COUNTY LAUNCHES PROCESS TO EVENTUALLY OUTLAW ABORTION: (LifeSiteNews, by Personhood Alliance) – “On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, Wilkes County, North Carolina, commissioners voted unanimously to protect pre-born children from abortion as part of the Personhood Alliance’s Safe Cities and Counties initiative, becoming the third county in the nation to do so. This was the first step in a unique three-phased approach that empowers citizens to take control at the local level and peacefully defy the unjust ruling of Roe v. Wade.” Read the full story here.

U.S. FEDERAL APPEALS COURT FREEZES BIDEN'S VACCINE RULE FOR COMPANIES: (Reuters) – “A U.S. federal appeals court issued a stay Saturday freezing the Biden administration's efforts to require workers at U.S. companies with at least 100 employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be tested weekly, citing ‘grave statutory and constitutional’ issues with the rule. The ruling from the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit comes after numerous Republican-led states filed legal challenges against the new rule, which is set to take effect on Jan 4.” Read the full story here.

ARE ASSISTED SUICIDE PRACTITIONERS EXPERIMENTING ON VULNERABLE PATIENTS? (Live Action News) –Assisted suicide and euthanasia have been gaining in popularity globally under the guise of a dignified, pain-free death. People claim assisted suicide with the help of a doctor is preferable to dying a natural death from cancer, dementia, or other diseases. Yet is assisted suicide as peaceful and pain-free as claimed? And are the doctors responsible for it saviors — or killers?” Read the full story here.
