ACTION ALERT WISCONSIN ASSEMBLY PASSES BILL PERMITTING ABORTION UP TO 14 WEEKS
On an 53-46 vote last Thursday the Wisconsin State Assembly passed Assembly Bill (AB) 975, legislation permitting abortion up to 14-weeks gestation and placing the measure on the April 2024 spring ballot in a legally binding referendum. In so doing, the Assembly abandoned its defense of our current abortion law, Wisconsin Statute 940.04, which bans abortion from conception. Even worse, the Assembly included exceptions for rape and incest in AB 975 which is not only a gross denial of equal protection under the law but effectively permits abortion up to birth since no police report or other substantiation of the alleged sexual assault is required.
Pro-Life Wisconsin commends the 11 Republican state representatives who courageously voted NO on AB 975: Scott Allen (R-Waukesha); Elijah
Behnke (R-Oconto); Ty Bodden (R-Hilbert); Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls); Joy Goeben (R-Hobart); Rick Gundrum (R-Slinger); Gae Magnafici (R-Dresser); Dave Maxey (R-New
Berlin); Jerry O’Connor (R-Fond du Lac); Michael Schraa (R-Oshkosh); and Chuck Wichgers (R-Muskego). If one of these pro-life heroes is your state representative, please call him or her and express your thanks. We especially thank Representatives Wichgers and Allen for leading the fight against AB 975. The Heal Without Harm Coalition, comprised of Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin
Right to Life, Wisconsin Family Action, and the Wisconsin Catholic Conference, opposes the introduction of an abortion referendum during a time when the current state abortion ban continues to proceed through the state court system. The Coalition will continue to defend s.940.04, a lifesaving law which has saved over 1,500 lives since the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022. We ask the Wisconsin Legislature to wait until the state court challenges are resolved before proposing any new abortion limits. Contact Your State Senator TODAY!
Tell them to “protect preborn children from conception by defending our current state abortion ban, Wisconsin Statute 940.04. In less than two years, over 1,500 lives have been saved in Wisconsin thanks to 940.04.”
Don’t know your State Senator? Visit legis.wisconsin.gov and type in your home address under “Who Are My Legislators” or call the Legislative Hotline: 1-800-362-9472.
We thank all of you who made calls to your state representatives, urging them to oppose AB 975. God bless you, and please continue making your pro-life voices heard in the State Senate!

WI DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES RELEASES 2022 INDUCED ABORTIONS REPORT
For those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, the total number of abortions performed in the state of Wisconsin in 2022 could have been ANY number between zero and somewhere in the vicinity of 2021’s numbers—6,579. The overturning of Roe v. Wade with the Dobbs decision happened on June 24, 2022—so about half the way through the year. Half of 6,579 would be 3,290. In 2022, the total number of abortions performed in Wisconsin was:
3,333 As a Christian organization, it is not lost on Pro-Life Wisconsin that even in reporting abortion numbers in the year the pro-abortion left lost their sacred cow, Roe v. Wade, they continue to mock God. There is a lot of meaning in the bible with numbers. Jesus lived on
this earth for 33 years. Our God is one, but three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the TRINITY. These numbers were reported to the state by the abortion mills. Who would have ever thought that the sum-total would be this? One thing we do know is that God will not be mocked.
Most of the ratios were very similar to 2021. However, chemical abortions were down by 1% over 2021. 86% of all abortions were performed on babies less than 13 weeks gestation. 87% were performed on women who had NEVER been married. 88% on women less than 35 years old. 100% of these babies were murdered.
The good news is that the Dobbs decision saved a multitude of babies in Wisconsin along with our state criminal abortion ban, Wisconsin Statute 940.04, which bans abortion from conception. Thousands of babies. For this, we are thankful and give all the credit, glory and honor to God. “We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which we ought to do.” ~ Luke 17:10
If you like numbers, too, here’s one. ZERO. We want ZERO abortions in Wisconsin. That is the goal as it always has been. This is the hill we will die on. The battle has just begun. Let us begin anew. Get praying!

WISCONSIN ABORTION BILL HEARING HIGHLIGHTS DIVIDES AMONG THE PROCEDURE’S OPPONENTS: Courthouse News Service) – “Divisions in the anti-abortion movement were on full display in Wisconsin's Capitol Monday as a legislative committee heard public comment on a proposal to replace the state’s currently suspended abortion ban with a voter referendum on a 14-week ban. The Wisconsin Assembly’s Committee on Health, Aging and Long-Term Care conducted a public hearing on Monday for Assembly Bill 975, which was introduced last week and proposes a referendum on a ban on abortions after the 14th week of pregnancy. The bill, with voter approval, would reduce the window of permissible abortions in the state by six weeks, with exceptions only for medical emergencies. It would, however, be a substantial liberalization of Wisconsin abortion law in the event an 1849 total ban comes back into effect. That law came back into effect when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, but was rendered largely ineffective by a Dane County judge, whose decision has been appealed and is expected to go before the state’s liberal-majority Supreme Court this year. […] The vast majority of testimony against the bill, however, came from anti-abortion groups and individuals. Representatives of the Heal Without Harm Coalition, a group comprised of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference and anti-abortion groups Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Family Action and Wisconsin Right to Life, joined with several anti-abortion individuals to sharply criticize Republican legislators for contemplating an alternative to a total abortion ban.
[…] Matt Sande, Legislative Director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, testified alongside (Jack) Hoogendyk (of Wisconsin Family Action), Tia Izzia of the Wisconsin Catholic Conference and Gracie Skogman of Wisconsin Right to Life. The four presented a united front against the bill, variously calling it defeatist, immoral, and politically unsound. (PLW NOTE: exceptions for sexual
assault and incest were added to AB 975 by the Assembly Health Committee after the public hearing)
AMERICAN YOUTH ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF PRO-LIFE EDUCATION, NEW POLL SUGGESTS: (LifeSiteNews, by Susan Ciancio, American Life League) – “A recent poll conducted by Students for Life of America and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement examined abortion beliefs held by registered voters between the ages of 18 and 42. They found that people in these age ranges aren’t as liberal about abortion ‘rights’ as the mainstream media would have us all believe. According to the article, ‘only 9% supported the Democratic Party’s radical agenda of abortion through all 9 months without limits, up to
and including allowing infanticide.’ However, the poll also found that the young people who are opposed to abortion also accept the idea that abortion should be legal for certain reasons, including ‘in cases of rape and incest, 81%; if the baby has a life-threatening condition, 76%; if the baby has a medical condition that may be challenging; 74%; [and] if the baby has a medical condition that will be costly, 61%.’ While in some respects the poll results are a little more positive than the image many may have about young people in our culture today, we must understand that exceptions that allow for abortion in some cases still cause the death of some babies. Whether that baby was created from rape or incest or whether he may
have a disease, disability, or an illness, his life is no less valuable than a healthy child or a child purposefully created. All babies deserve our protection. This is why we must educate all young people about the humanity of the preborn baby.” Read the full op-ed here.
